The book that got it all started

About 8 years ago well known pastor gave me a copy of the book "Houses that changed the world" written by Wolfgang Simpson. I must confess that I do not often read books about the church especially the last ten years of my life. This book – one of the few that I have actually read changed my life completely. This book was the starting point that put me on a journey questioning most of what I believed up to then to be true about church. With my basic training in Theology just completed the book inspired me to look at the church (and many aspects of the church) in my Masters in Theology studies.

This book is a must read! I would recommend this book to everyone even to those that do not believe in the house church movement. At this point I need to emphasize again that I do not advocate the house church movement and that I believe in the church in various forms fulfilling various needs in society. However we need to question that which we thought to be true for so long. I challenge you to read the book and be inspired.

Millions of Christians around the world are becoming aware of an imminent reformation of global proportions within the church. God is changing this revered institution and is making a new collective awareness of an age-old revelation, a corporate spiritual echo that reflects God’s desire for the church. In this book, Simson brings to light what God is saying to Christians everywhere. Researched across the globe, he presents the case for the reformation of the church’s existence. In a world where the church is being ignored, it is time to bring the church to the people and not the people to the church. Whether it is what we know as church from the last five years or the last five hundred years, no one has truly been able to break free from the structures of the past. Many may see this book as radical, many may see it as a reforming of old ideals but all who read it will be challenged and their priorities refocused in a life-changing way.

Freedom

The lyrics of this song speaks loudly to the leaders of the church "Are we Pharaoh's that keeps God people in bondage?"

Die liriek is baie sterk en die woorde dreig sterk teen gelowiges se ore: "Is ons die Fariseers en Skrifgeleerdes wat God se mense in ons eie strukture wil hou?"

Freedom!
.html ]
Back in the bible there was that old Pharaoh
Who ruled over Egypt and Israel
God spoke to Moses through fired up bushes
Said kick off your shoes and stay awhile

All of humanity was made to worship me
Pharaoh get outta my way
(God is sayin')

[Chorus]
Freedom to dance
Freedom to sing
Freedom to grow
I'm telling you Pharaoh let Gods people go!

Worship now
Worship now
Worship your God (x4)
(let 'em go)

Well, we live in a country supposedly Pharaohless
But all over town and in churches abide
Powerful weaklings who practice they're politics
Stealing from Jesus his beautiful bride
Whether you're Pharisees, Sadducees, heresies
You best get outta God's way!

(God is sayin')

[Chorus]

Worship now
Worship now
Worship your God (x4)
(let 'em go)

Well, we live in a country supposedly Pharaohless
But all over town and in churches abide
Powerful weaklings who practice they're politics
Stealing from Jesus his beautiful bride
Whether you're Pharisees, Sadducees, heresies
You best get outta God's way!
(God is sayin')

So you don't want to go to church anymore

I am writing this article as a review of a book that I have recently read.

What an excellent book! The story takes you through the life of a pastor as he discovers aspects of church and of his personal life that would change his life forever. Church as we know it today serves a great purpose in the community and without it there will certainly be a great void. BUT church as we know it today also causes great harm to individuals. The focus of this book is not that there should not be a church - but that we are the church! That we should focus on getting our own life’s in order with God.

This book kept my attention from start to finish and I greatly recommend it to church goers who feels that there is a void in their life but doesn’t know why. This book does not provide answers as to the method of church but focus more on our relationship with God.

The Parable of the Orange Tree by Dr. John White

I dreamed I drove on a Florida road, still and straight and empty. On either side were groves of orange trees, so that as I turned to look at them from time to time, line after line of trees stretched back endlessly from the road. Their boughs were heavy with round yellow fruit. This was harvest time. My wonder grew as the miles slipped by. How could the harvest be gathered?

Suddenly I realized that for all the hours I had driven (and this was how I knew I must be dreaming) I had seen no other person. The groves were empty of people. No other car had passed me. No houses were to be seen beside the highway. I was alone in a forest of orange trees.

But, at last, I saw some orange pickers. Far from the highway, almost on the horizon, lost in the vast wilderness of unpicked fruit, I could discern a tiny group of them working steadily. And many miles later I saw another group. I could not be sure, but I suspected that the earth beneath me was shaking with silent laughter at the hopelessness of their task. Yet the pickers went on picking.

The sun had long passed its zenith and the shadows were lengthening when, without any warning, I turned a corner of the road to see a notice "Leaving NEGLECTED COUNTY - Entering HOME COUNTY." The contrast was so startling that I scarcely had time to take in the notice. I had to slow down for all at once the traffic was heavy. People by the thousands swarmed the road and crowded the sidewalks.

Getting started

House church or simple church? Does it matter? What about the difference between cell church and the more traditional churches? The thing is I do not advocate the house church movement!!! But in the spirit of open discussion I have listened to their Theology and found some of my own Theology lacking. Join me in some of my revelations over the last few years regarding things not related to the house church movement but things that started to boil in me because I was willing to listen to other peoples Theology.

Welcome

Welcome to this blog created to distribute resources and to discuss matters regarding church today. The idea is to openly speak my mind without fear of what other people may do to me because of my views. Open discussion is something that we should cherish - something we should embark upon. I challenge you to take part in my discussions. Most of my discussions will be in Afrikaans but I will try to accommodate the English speaking people as well. Please excuse spelling and tense errors.
